The Blog Story: How It Came to Be
[dropcap]I[/dropcap] have always wanted to be a ‘serious blogger.’ Right from the beginning, when blogging was an infant medium, I wanted to be able to reach people with my words. One night, during a late night conversation with the nerdmate, I mentioned it again. I’d been talking about my latest failed attempt, which I’d invited him to eventually read. It was a lame personal blog that no one visited. I mentioned wanting to reach more people and possibly write something important and special. Now I’ve got a new project. This time I won’t be totally on my own. Chad has vowed to keep cheering me on through the whole process. Because the nerdmate is amazing and supportive.
Then he asked whether or not I was going to start over with a brand new blog. I wavered at first. Mostly because there was some good content on the old site. Also I had a very clever tagline. But ultimately we decided together that it would better to start with a clean slate. So Nerd Candy Levels Up was born. Chad mentioned reclaiming the label nerd candy. And then he had the brilliant idea for the title. So I ran with it.
So What Kind of Blog Is This Anyway?
Here’s the deal. I don’t really have a niche to blog about.
I don’t have kids so I can’t be a mommy/parenting blogger. Chad’s nerdlings do not currently count. They have a wonderful full-time mother. I’m the part-time side help at the moment. Fashion just isn’t my bag no matter how much I love cute clothes. I do not have the skill set to run a beauty blog. I do good to get the wings of my eyeliner straight on a good day. I don’t think I’m qualified to write with any kind of authority about health and fitness. Not when I’m sometimes guilty of forgetting to eat unless the nerdmate reminds me. My kitchen is not currently equipped for full-time food blogging. Neither is my life. I have no clue how I would run a lifestyle blog. So where does that leave me?
Confession time: I have started and failed to run at least five blogs. The cold hard truth is that I am a restless spirit. I have far too many passions. Boxing myself into one blogging category has never worked. I just can’t make myself write about a just one topic constantly. So I would start something, discover I just couldn’t keep writing day in and day out about it, and grow bored. I’m positive that it’s one of the many reasons so many of my attempts failed.I am a restless blogging spirit on an endless flight. Now the question is whether I can make that marketable. I don’t particularly care for the term personal blog if only because it lends itself to the idea of a diary. Diaries are private. That’s not what I’m doing here. This is a ‘slice of life’ blog filled with a little bit of everything. I’m going to be sharing my quest to find my place in the world. Because recently I’ve discovered that I’m not sure what that is. Nerd candy is going to keep trying to level up. And I’m taking you along for the ride.
The Grand Experiment
I am also going to make an attempt to carve out my own niche in the blogging world. This blog is a sort of experiment. I’m going to take my unique voice and perspective and develop an audience. I’m going to find a market for the sassy nerd girl and what she has to offer. Now I know what you’re thinking. Wait, so we’re all going to be your lab rats? You expect readers out of this? What could you possibly have to offer?
There will be several benefits to reading. I’m going to show my work. So there will be posts full of links to resources and research. I’ll share my plans and possibly create free printables from the planner pages I make. And you’re definitely going to get a healthy dose of my delightful personality. Isn’t that reward enough?
