So things have been so hectic since my birthday that I haven’t had time to sit down and write a post. Work has been super busy, and when I leave work I’ve got the gym and then it’s back home for homework, dinner, and housework. Life doesn’t slow down just because I want to write blog posts. I haven’t gotten a chance to even write my post about the goals I have for this year and beyond.
Time for a Tale
It’s story time folks because I’ve got a good one. Honestly, I almost feel that the Nerdmate should write this post, or at least his part of the story. After all he did mastermind it, and it was brilliant. But then again, should I really be surprised since he is also the dungeon master? And this is the tale of how I found the new magic item I’m wearing on my finger, perfectly attuned. It gives me +2 to charisma, and let’s me add the Nerdmate’s stats to all my saving throws in life’s adventure.
This all began weeks before the big day when a grand conspiracy formed, headed up by Chad, in which all our friends proceeded to spend time plotting and scheming to convince me that we were not getting together for my birthday. Apparently there was an entire secret Facebook chat and a lot of behind the scenes work, including dummy birthday gifts so that I would be convinced that nothing was going on. It worked like a charm. Meanwhile I knew two things, my ring had been ordered and there was something else specific to the proposal. But other than that, I was completely in the dark. The ring was shipped to the Nerd Cave and I was not allowed to see it. This of course drove me insane because I am obsessive beyond words.
When my birthday rolled around, we had taken the day, so Chad made lemon ricotta pancakes for my breakfast, and we spent the day relaxing and watching television before heading out for a special birthday dinner. We drove all the way out past where our best friends live, all the while I sat confused and making random guesses about where we were going to dinner. I have been informed that I must explain how nuts I was about this, and in all fairness I was pretty crazy. I guessed every five minutes or so because at this point my obsessive personality had straight up lost it. Guess like “why are we going to work” and “why are with passing our friends’ house” and “oh, are we going to the Aquarium” flew. Turns out, we were heading to a really great little Italian place we’d never been to where the food was family style and they sang a birthday song with a candelabra. When we arrived there were a lot of whispers between my partner and the staff, and eventually we were taken to the back of the restaurant where I was surprised to see all of our friends waiting for us. It was an amazing birthday dinner, and it just kept getting better.
Presents were given, and when I finally opened Chad’s it contained two items. The first was a new set of pretty pink dice, the perfect gift from the dungeon master to one of his delightful party of misfits. But it wasn’t the dice that made me smile the brightest. It was something else in the box. Written on the back of the label was the all important question. So like the ultimate nerds, Chad proposed to me on the back of a Chessex label for a box of D&D dice. Obviously I said yes, and the ring box is a d20, special ordered from an Etsy shop where it was 3D printed.
So that is the official story of how I found my magic item. Check out my instagram for pictures.
More things while I was away from the blog
I told my family and friends about the engagement, and everyone was pleased. I had my annual review at the 9to5 and did well enough to earn a bonus and a raise. My Hobbit turned four, which made me grow some more gray hairs, and the potty training attempts continue.
